CHAPTER 19

Blake had no idea how he was going to approach Benjamin Abramson with the truth about Jesus and recent events. Ben was not only set in his ways but had also been indoctrinated by his family from birth to the present. He had to give him credit. He was a good Jew. Blake was not so sure Ben would not fire him if he knew he had made the choice to become a Christian. They had always had an understanding of each other’s beliefs, or in Blake’s case, the lack thereof. But this could be the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back for Ben, especially considering everything that had just taken place. “Lord, please help me find a way to do that,” he prayed. He did not know if he would be successful, but he was determined to try. He needed to report in.

“Ben, this is Blake. I thought I had better check in. Anders and I just returned from Chicago yesterday evening. It was a fruitful trip!”

“Blake! I thought the two of you got lost. It really wouldn’t hurt to check in while you are away. At least let me know how things are going. But you know I trust you. You are the man when it comes to the news. I’m just thankful you are on our team! I saw you reporting from the Tower in Chicago, and I’m glad you survived! Tell me, how did it feel standing on that ledge when the tremor hit?”

“You really don’t want to know! I have always heard your life flashes before your eyes when you come so close to death. Well, I don’t know if that happened, but I sure thought it might be my time. I’m glad it wasn’t! I can tell you that it felt better than you can imagine for Anders and me when we got our feet on solid ground again. Standing on a glass ledge 1,353 feet in the air is no place to be when an earthquake strikes! I know they said it was only a tremor, but it felt like a quake to me standing out there suspended in the air. It’s going to take a while to forget that.”

“Take a day or two if you need it, Blake. But then we need you back on the ground. Things are changing at warp speed and everybody wants to hear from Blake Thompson. We have to be careful to not let Beth Jennings gain ground on you,” he chuckled.

“I appreciate that Ben. We shall see. You know I’m not much for knowing things are happening and being away from the thick of the action. I love my job! I’ll be in touch. I’m still researching some things that came out of my time in Chicago anyway. I’m trying to find hard core evidence that the tremor may be leading up to a massive worldwide quake, as the experts are suggesting. If that happens Ben, we are all in trouble.
